Meet the Artist

Baxter creates functional sculptures from clay that are both wheel thrown and hand built. A long time visual artist telling stories through photography, painting, and filmmaking, she found herself drawn to pottery through an ancestral connection. Her sculptures invoke a closeness with nature while capturing the whimsy of creatures not defined by species but by an intrinsic adorable glean in their expressions.

After a decade in Austin, TX where she studied and first encountered community through ceramics, the beauty and pace of North Carolina has brought her back to where she has found a home creating and teaching in the Kenilworth neighborhood of Asheville. Through art, she is fulfilling her inner child’s dream while exploring the social rituals of gathering and what connects us to place and a feeling of home.
